Swab Testing .
Sterile-swab sampling reaches the corners, crevices and HVAC components that tape-lift sampling cannot — and identifies exactly what is growing there.
Sterile swab sampling.
Swab testing collects microbial samples from textured, recessed, or hard-to-reach surfaces using a sterile transport swab. Samples can be analyzed by direct microscopy or cultured to identify specific species.
Tape-lift sampling works beautifully on flat finished surfaces, but many of the locations that matter in a mold investigation aren't flat — duct interiors, HVAC coils, wall cavities, the inside of cabinets, grout lines, the underside of subfloor edges. Arnold Mold Inspections uses sterile swab sampling to reach these places without contaminating the sample or the surrounding area.
Swabs are sealed and submitted under chain-of-custody to an accredited laboratory. Standard direct-microscopy analysis identifies common indoor genera and the structural evidence of active growth. Where exact species or viability matters — for HVAC remediation scoping or health-related investigations — we can request culture analysis instead.
Swab data is most informative when paired with visual inspection, moisture mapping and either air sampling or tape-lift sampling. Our reports combine all relevant data into a single coherent picture of what is happening in the property, why it is happening, and what to do next.

Why it matters.
Reaches Hidden Areas
Tests surfaces tape-lifts can't sample reliably.
Targeted
Pinpoint a specific suspect surface with minimal cost.
HVAC Investigations
Ideal for ducts, coils, plenums and drain pans.
Species Identification
Direct microscopy or culture as the situation demands.
Chain Of Custody
Defensible documentation for disputes or claims.
