Air Sampling .

Spore-trap air sampling captures what is actually circulating in your indoor air, with accredited laboratory analysis and outdoor reference comparison.

§ 01 / Overview

Spore-trap air sampling, by the book.

Air sampling uses calibrated pumps to pull a measured volume of air through a spore-trap cassette. The cassette captures airborne spores, fragments and debris for accredited laboratory analysis.

Arnold Mold Inspections performs air sampling using calibrated pumps drawing 15 liters per minute through 5-minute spore-trap cassettes — a standardized industry protocol. Each indoor location is paired with an outdoor reference sample collected the same day, so laboratory results can be interpreted in the context of background outdoor conditions in Los Angeles.

Spore-trap cassettes are sent under chain-of-custody to an accredited environmental laboratory for direct microscopic examination. The lab reports total spore counts per cubic meter and identifies common indicators including Stachybotrys, Chaetomium, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Cladosporium, Alternaria and Basidiospores.

Our reports include a side-by-side indoor/outdoor comparison, a plain-language interpretation of what the counts and species mean, and a recommendation on whether the data supports the need for remediation, additional sampling, or a clean result. Because we do not perform remediation, the recommendation is always in the property owner's interest.

§ 02 / Indicators

When you need it.

  • 01Indoor air quality concerns with no visible growth
  • 02Verifying that a musty odor reflects elevated spore counts
  • 03Real estate transactions requiring documented air quality
  • 04Lease disputes or tenant health complaints
  • 05Post-renovation verification of indoor air conditions
  • 06HVAC mold complaints in offices and commercial spaces
  • 07Following water damage to assess airborne impact
  • 08Periodic baseline sampling for property managers and HOAs
§ 03 / Method

Our process.

  1. 01

    Plan

Define indoor sample locations and outdoor reference.

  2. 02

    Calibrate

Pump calibration at the start of each project.

  3. 03

    Outdoor Reference

    Baseline sample collected outdoors first.

  4. 04

    Indoor Sampling

    Multiple representative locations indoors.

  5. 05

    Lab Submission

    Chain-of-custody to accredited laboratory.

  6. 06

    Interpretation

    Plain-language report with recommendations.

§ 04 / Benefits

Why it matters.

01

Standardized Protocol

Industry-standard 15 LPM, 5-minute spore-trap method.

02

Outdoor Reference

Indoor counts always interpreted against local outdoor baseline.

03

Species Identification

Indicator species distinguish background from concern.

04

Defensible Data

Chain-of-custody documentation usable in disputes.

05

Hidden Mold Detection

Reveals microbial sources even with no visible growth.

06

Independent Interpretation

We do not sell remediation — interpretation is unbiased.

§ 05 / Questions

FAQ.

  • Outdoor air contains background spores. Comparing indoor counts to a same-day outdoor reference is the only way to know whether indoor counts are truly elevated.
